Tim Motzer Interview

Tim Motzer has played with a zillion amazing people: David Sylvian, Burnt Friedman, Jaki Liebezeit, poet Ursula Rucker, King Britt, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Vernon Reid, David Torn, Markus Reuter, and Pat Mastelotto.

He's the founder of 1k Recordings, a painter, a multi-instrumentalist, a teacher, and more. Fascinating guy and Cedric Hendrix pulls a lot out of him in a half hour.

The End of King Crimson?

Could it be? Has King Crimson called it quits after 53 years? It would appear so!

Robert Fripp posted to Facebook that the last note of Starless at the last concert in Japan on the Completion Tour was a move "from sound to silence." What does this mean?

Thankfully, Sid Smith (King Crimson biographer and website/social media guy) clarified that it was KC's final note.

Copyright Holders vs. Content Creators

Here's my take on how copyright works on YouTube.

This video was instigated by a video I made that was blocked by Warner Music Group because I included short excerpts of Björk's amazing album "Vespertine" in a video telling the world they should listen to it. The album is 20 years old and it's practically a commercial for Björk's music and how much I love it.

It's the same story @Rick Beato had with his Joni Mitchell video, except his video got 500K views before it got taken down. Mine was taken down before I could even publish it!

Björk’s “Vespertine” · Jaw-Dropper

Here's my jaw-dropper episode about Björk's 2001 release "Vespertine." Unfortunately, Warner Music Group (and maybe Universal Music Group) have blocked the original version because I included short excerpts (between 20 and 40 seconds) that highlight and substantiate my commentary. Nevertheless, here's a version with all my talking parts and whatever music I could get away with. Hopefully you'll still find it enjoyable.

The jaw-dropper series highlights music that made my jaw drop when I first heard it. This episode is about Björk's 2001 masterpiece, Vespertine.

What do you think about this album? Is it a favorite of yours, too?

What do you think about Björk in general?

Yet, Tony Levin (King Crimson's bassist) has taken photos from the stage for 40 years. How — and why — has the photo policy changed over the years?

Pat Metheny Noise Rock

What do Pat Metheny and Dillinger Escape Plan have in common? Turns out, the answer is Pat's 1994 noise rock release, "Zero Tolerance for Silence." This crazy album was both critically praised and panned. Let's learn why.

Pat Metheny goes way beyond his signature jazz guitar tone. In this video, we'll dip our toes into some of his most avant garde moments.

Thanks to Gregg Bendian for his excellent contributions to this video.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Failure

This is a PechaKucha presentation/Ignite Talk I wrote for the SIGDOC 2021 conference, hosted by Arizona State University. In a PechaKucha presentation, you get 5 minutes to present an idea with slides that automatically advance every 15 seconds. I used my "Failure to Fracture" series as a vehicle for learning how to love mistakes and failure.

This presentation will be broadcast internationally to Brazil, Ireland, Portugal, China, and several locations across the US.
