Did Brian Eno Invent Ambient Music?

A lot of people think @Brian Eno invented ambient music, but is this true? When Eno released "Ambient 1: Music for Airports" in 1978, he was standing on the shoulders of people like John Cage, Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, and Raymond Scott. Critics called Ambient 1 "boring" and "self-indulgent," but nowadays it's considered "genre-breaking" and a "landmark." What do people think about it today?
